Redshift not working in fedora15 ,16 !!! here is solution to protect your eyes .

Redshift is a small software for Gnu-Linux which help you to protect your eyes , it will change the color and temperature of your screen according to your day night setting . it will change change the color of the screen as the day  is progressed . At night ,color of your temperature  will be very dull to protect your eyes . Now you will be thinking that how this software does it automatically it is simply by knowing your latitude and longitude .  Here is the command by which you can download and install in fedora

yum install redshift
yum install gtk-redshift

Until fedora 14 there was no problem because it was configured automatically with gnome clock which had a location option. But now in fedora 16 there is no location in the clock so you can  not start redshift automatically . So you have to configure it manually and here the option how to do it

How to Make your Linux Pc Speak/talk : Any thing from time , date or , tweets[tip]

Helubuntu, the scientific Linux made by myself

Ok this is really cool!! think when you power on your Linux machine it welcomes you, it tells you the current time and date tells you who are online who have mentions you in tweets . well this is freaking awesome . You do this with ease if you are using ubuntu , fedora or  Linux mint 12 or any other Linux flavors . ok then let start to learn how to do that .

All Linux flavor provide us a text to speech software festival . The command festival will be used to convert our text to speech here is an example of how to do that .

$ echo ” hello how are you ” | festival –tts

Type this command in terminal and you will hear a voice [yes this is your computer’s voice ] i will speak what we have given in the echo command now lets create a welcome script which will welcome you win you power on your pc .

week=$(date +”%A” )
day=$(date +”%e” )
echo hello $USER you are super awesome i am your processor | festival –tts
echo today is $week $day | festival –tts
echo have a nice day | festival –tts

Save this script in and run in terminal sh . Now you hear a voice welcoming you and telling you the date and the time . set this script in you startup application to run it automatically when you log on .

Now let us see another script which will impress your friends .

echo “opening google chrome ” | festival –tts
google-chrome &
echo “done” | festival –tts
echo “opening empathy ” | festival –tts
empathy &
echo “done ” | festival –tts
echo “opening x chat ” | festival –tts
xchat &
echo “done ” | festival –tts

Now save this script as . Now what this script will do is open your application at once .  if you use some application on daily basis add the application to your script . This script will speak which application is going to be opened and this sound really cool . Now its on you what cool things can you do with this application . you can do many things like , knowing who are online , how many unread mail are in your inbox , if some body has mentions you on twitter .

I am working on a script which will speak tweets will update it in my next post .

How to install Fedora 3.5 gb dvd iso using usb most ,easiest way .[usb boot]

The device pictured is a 128MiB PNY Attaché US...

The most easiest way tho install a fedora is by burning the iso file to dvd and then install from that dvd . But some time you don’t have a working Cd Rom , in that case you have to install fedora from usb . Making the bootable usb  from the live image is very easy you can use any software like unetbootin or other software . Making a bootable usb form dvd is tricky though . But i have found the most simplest and easy way on fedora’s site . So at first you need to install the following software from yum .

$ su -c "yum install liveusb-creator" $ su -c "yum install livecd-tools"
Now after installing these software attach your usb drive to the computer and run following command
# fdisk -l
This command will show you the partition table from where you have see the name of your pen drive which could be /dev/sdb/ , /dev/sdc/ , after that unmount the pen drive [This is important step] . you can unmount from the both command line or from usb , following is the command
#umount /dev/sdb
Now run the following command to make the media bootable.
# livecd-iso-to-disk path-to/Fedora-16-i386-DVD.iso /dev/sdb
if every thing is all right there will be no error your bootable usb will be created .If usb is not suitable that you can get some errors .
Error no 1 : Partition is not marked bootable .
this means that the usb that your are using is not marked as bootable so you have to mark it as bootable following is the procedure .
First type the following command
#parted /dev/sdb this will bring you into the parted utility affter that type the following command
(parted) print
this will print some thing like this
Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
 1      32.3kB  1062MB  1062MB  primary  fat16
you can see that under the Flags coll um nothing is printed to make it bootable type following command
(parted) toggle 1 boot This will made mark you usb as bootable you check this from using print command .
Error no 2 : Your file system must be vfat ext[2,3] or brtfs
This means you have to change the file system of your usb for this us following command
mkdosfs /dev/sdb This will change the file system to msdos .
In this way you can install fedora from a dvd iso using usb if you don't have working usb and network . If you have some another way tell in comments
